Typhoons Hit Taiwan!

Our new Grace Fellowship here in Tainan City has been growing steadily despite the rude disruption by several typhoons.  The entire city goes into a lockdown when a typhoon threat is detected. Business close down, the schools empty and you are not allowed to go outside.  Several typhoons have chosen to arrive on a Sunday causing us to have to cancel church service.

Despite these interruptions, the church has continued to see a steady flow of new people coming to check us out.  Our new “talk show” format is proving very successful with the Taiwanese.  They enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and the variety of topics.

We have been covering an array of beginner’s topics and especially interesting was the topic “We Ain’t Afraid of No Ghosts!”   This topic was in response to Taiwan’s Ghost Month (August), a time when it is believed Hell is opened up for one month and all the spirits are allowed to play havoc on the streets.  No one opens a business, gets married or boards a plane if they can help it during this month. Next month we are going to begin a series that we call “Jesus is Not a Foreign God!” and we are encouraging our folks to invite family or friends from work who have always wondered what Christianity is all about.

In closing, I want to thank you for both your prayer and financial support of this ministry.  Without you these young people would never know they are loved and accepted.

Lots of Love

Denise & Diane

Dear Partners,

Who would believe that less than one year after EMI sent the first South African Mission team to Durban, that the ACTS Bible School would begin? Rev. Deborah Bell of the Deo Gloria Family Church is the first South African church to host the ACTS Bible School. The students were so excited that they fasted for a day, so when the class opened, they were ready to receive. The Instructor was Rev. Sandra Turnbull from The Tab (Glory Tabernacle), California, USA.

Watching and waiting has never been a strong suit of the human race. No, we choose to get things in the “right now” instead of waiting for God’s perfect timing. But God’s word tells us in Habakkuk 2:3
